Unique front bonnet modification

Just saw this photo in Facebook and amaze with the custom bonnet modification with the double depression in the center. Wonder what the concept behind this. To get more fresh air into the air filter near the firewall ? Is it under the hood is a open pod air filter modification ?

It just seem a bit small opening and I hope it doesn't become a water channel during rain that will push so much water at the firewall. 

Anyway, something interesting. It seems come from Russia. Hope the owner could drop me a comments below and share more information about this.
