This is something that interest me on Twitter post where there are still tuner which tune the HT81S in Japan while using standalone ECU and not piggyback. First of all, HT81S is a very old car and not much people will tune and use this car anymore as it is a very rare and low in production car.
This Japanese tuner Garage FK uses Link ECU for the standalone ECU which you can buy it from them completely tuned for basic tuned up. You can just replace the original ECU and still will enjoy all the functionality of the standard ECU.
The standard tuned up will change the behaviour of the VVT from 4000 to 3000 activated. Based on their standard tuned ECU.
It won't be cheap anyway, the complete set will cost around JPY 140k.
