Close gear ratio kit by Suzukisport

I had read about this product quite some time but I didnt put it yet into my blog.
So let me introduce you with the close gear ratio kit developed by Suzuki sport for Autocross/autokhana enthusiast.

Opps, let me warn you first this. This kit is for ZC31S, but I think it is alright to put into the HT81S.

The beauty of this mod is to have better acceleration and response in low gear. You can actually achieve a better pickup without upgrading the engine horsepower.
This statement is absolutely true, I had an mechanic friend which know some gearbox specialist in the old day mod their gearbox in their old car to keep up with the new car. Its much cheaper but you do lose something in return. I will explain further on this later.

The above picture just show the comparison close gear ratio done to your car. You can have better speed with the same gear and keep the power in their optimum range.

The above graph show the gear ratio differences between before and after the mod. You can see clearly that this mod will make your gear sequence closer and keep the engine power in the torque range when you shift up.
This example is taken from ZC31S, but it does apply to other cases too.

Ok. lets talk about the price, the price is pretty steep for this mod and you can actually use the same amount of money to change to M18 upgrade kit. Its worth but only after you had done all the engine upgrade before moving into this.

Now as what I explain earlier, you will lose something in return for this mod. You will lose the top speed. That is very obvious as you can see from the graph, you will only achive an maximum of 160-180km/h on the highest rev. This will certainly eat your fuel consumption if you intend to use for street. You will lose to even the basic 1.3l in the highway.
Even now with the original setup in HT81S, 120km/m will take around 3500 rpm which is quite high and it doesnt save fuel.

This seriously will affect your decision if you intend to do this mod. But if you have a spare car. Do buy this kit and you wont regret later.

A perfect match for M18 upgrade kit with upgrade spring too, LSD too.

An 8000rpm M18 engine with close gear ratio, I'm in heaven when I drive this to my local Autocross event.

  1. hello

i was wondering if going to an 185/45/15 insteed of the 185/55/15 wouldt give the "same" effect as this close gear ratio box

  2. of that i mean the tire size

    ReplyDelete
  3. Nope. You wont get the same effect of close gear ratio.
The difference in tire size is too small.
The close gear ratio maintains higher rpm during gear changes, thus giving you the highest torque when engaging high gear.

  4. yes i know but i dont have the mony fore the gear box:-( so im picking a 185/45/15 next time im having new tyres. and im planning of lowering the car 30/30 thats shouldt look good.

and take the rear seats out in the future fore lower wheigt!

  5. I truly understand your constrains, I am having some budget issue this year with my car too.
If you wan better pickup, you can reduce the weight and pump you tire pressure a bit on the high side.
Turning off the aircond will help too.

  6. yes i know i newer drive with radio on or the ac on, when im racing;) no devices shouldt drain the generator!

do u know anything about changing your ground/chassis cables for less restrain on the generator=more hp on the wheels

  7. Seriously, I doubt the real gain from ground/chassis cables during race or high speed.
However, I do feel it provide better idling and air-cond startup.
